Public records can answer useful questions, but the path from a spreadsheet to understanding is often a long one. USA Crime Ledger gives people a place to start: choose a category, find a neighborhood, and explore the records with their context close at hand.
Start with a place you know
The New York City explorer connects an interactive neighborhood map with category filters, search, and a detail panel. Charts and city-comparison views offer other ways into the material. English and Spanish interfaces help more readers follow the same information.
Keep the meaning beside the number
Source links, reporting periods, and plain-language definitions are part of the experience. Complaint records and shooting-victim records answer different questions. Raw neighborhood counts are labeled as counts, not population-adjusted risk scores. A recorded complaint is not a conviction, and missing information should never quietly become a zero.
The platform is an independent presentation of public records, not a government service or a claim to measure every incident.
